Creating security for our campus is about anticipating, protecting, and building resilience. Today’s cyber threats are not the ones we will face tomorrow. OIT will continue to protect our most precious assets from malicious actors by remaining vigilant in the ever-changing world of cybersecurity and employing future-proof technologies.
A Multifaceted Approach to Protecting Campus
Campus Education
Educating faculty, staff, and students about cybersecurity risks creates an ecosystem of informed agents who collectively work together to protect our campus. In support of this education, OIT will continue to expand the Campus Information Security Program by arming units with various toolkits and resources, updating the incident response plan and risk register, and launching the UC Information Security Policy. We will continue to update the working remotely guide, the new security website, and AI recommendations.
Secure Email
Moving our community to robust, modern email clients and strengthening them further with additional products to help identify risks, is essential for daily protection of assets. Utilizing Proofpoint Email Security, inboxes are safeguarded from malicious links, phishing, and malware.
Ransomware Protection
Working to prevent ransomware attacks through advanced protection protocols is essential, but it’s also important to ensure the secure backup of data in the event of an attempted attack. We are working towards campuswide implementation of an IS-12 disaster recovery policy to keep our data secure.
Creating Safe, Stable Connectivity
Improve Connection
The campus will gain a new level of connection through a multi-year journey to build out a faster, more secure Wi-Fi network. A new, secure UCI Guest network will facilitate seamless internet access for guests during events and campus activities. Embedded in these upgrades will be enhanced network threat detection to keep the campus secure.
Secure Network
The perimeter securing our campus network will be based on who you are and the device you use. It will determine what you can access regardless of where you are, supporting the principles of Work Reimagined.
Providing Backup When It Counts
Secure Research
UCI researchers will rest easy knowing their invaluable data is backed up. CrashPlan is currently available for all researchers to help prevent data loss. OIT is also in the piloting phase of a lab storage server backup (LSSB) with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
